Dolores graduated from Roswell High School in 1964. Upon graduating high school, she worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital under the direction and supervision of Sister Melinda and held this position for three years. After receiving much encouragement from Sister Melinda and Edna Keith Stephens, Dolores decided to attend a nursing school where she received her Degree, Nurses Pin, Hat and License as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dolores had completed one of her life-long dreams, to help care for the sick and elderly, which was one of the happiest and proudest accomplishments of her life.
While attending Nursing School, Dolores met and married the love of her life, Joe M. Sanchez Jr. on June 12, 1971, and they were married for forty-six years. Never had they left each other’s side. Together they had two children: daughter, Rebecca Estella Sanchez and son, Joe M. Sanchez III, both, her miracle babies. Once again, becoming a wife and mother was another of the happiest and proudest moments of her life. She dearly loved her family.
Dolores was with St. Mary’s Hospital on the Medical Floor until it closed in 1995. Then she transferred to Eastern New Mexico Medical Hospital’s Medical Floor and continued working until her retirement in 1998. Dolores worked as a nurse for over forty-two years.
Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, baking and some fishing. After retirement, Dolores continued to care for her children and husband until she was called home. Dolores will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Preceding Dolores in death were her parents: Miguel (Mike) Mora Garcia Sr. and Arcelia D. Martinez; paternal grandparents: Luis Garcia and Remedios Mora Garcia; maternal grandparents: Gregorio D. Martinez and Alifonsa D. Martinez; brother, Robert (Bob) M. Garcia; sister, Patricia (Patty) G. Gonzales.
Those she left behind to grieve are her husband, of forty-six years, Joe M. Sanchez Jr; daughter, Rebecca E. Sanchez; son, Joe M. Sanchez III; loving fur babies: Maggie, who was her constant loving and protective canine companion, Harley, rescued and tamed alley cat whom she made a home for, Coco, her cockatiel who sang and whistled for her daily; brothers: Louis and wife, Terri Garcia of San Antonio, TX, Mike E. and wife, Cristina O. Garcia of Roswell, NM, Thomas and wife, Jimmie Lou Garcia of Roswell, NM, Daniel (Danny) and wife, Tammy Garcia of Roswell, NM; sisters: Rosemary M. Garcia, Loretta M. Garcia, Beatrice S. Burns, Teresa G. Pacheco and husband, Greg H. Pacheco Sr, all of Roswell, NM; and numerous nephews, nieces and godchildren.
“May she rest in peace and soar with her Angel wings.” We Love You.
This tribute was lovingly written in honor of Dolores by her family.
