Tourism officials, business owners, community groups and attraction organizers have a chance to sell their story ideas to travel writers during summer 2018 by participating in a state competition.

Travel Tank is a “Shark Tank”-style pitching competition organized by the New Mexico Tourism Department to give tourism industry members a chance to share their story ideas with a panel of travel writers from around the United States. Last year the competition was open to the six regional marketing boards, but this year anyone involved in tourist-related activities can compete to participate.

Six of the applications will be chosen to pitch their ideas at Travel Tank during National Travel and Tourism Week in May 2018. All six also will be invited to participate in an upcoming Texas media mission in June and July 2018. In addition, one overall winner will receive a free booth during Family Travel Showcase in Gallup next November, an estimated $3,000 value.

To apply by the Feb. 2 deadline, fill out a form available on the Tourism Department website, newmexico.org. Eligible candidates include local community representatives, region boards, private businesses, attractions, non-profit organizations, stakeholder groups or event organizers or promoters. The department is asking that the ideas pitched be uniquely New Mexican and likely to inspire travel here.
