Our beautiful Rose was born to Erminio Sanchez and Delicia Gustamantes Sanchez on January 22, 1941. At the young age of two, she lost her birth mother, later her father re-married to Consuelo Mendoza Sanchez, who raised our mom as one of her very own daughters. On February 27, 1960, she married our dad, Henry M. Herrera here in Roswell, New Mexico. Together they raised two sons, five daughters, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren: Delicia Herrera (Robert), her children: Lisa (Bandit), Vato and Joe Ray (Amanda), grandchildren: Carlos, Jacob, Alyssa, Azariah, Lexi, Joseph, great-grandchildren: Cinco and Carly, Henry Sonny Herrera; Arthur Hachie Herrera, his children: Stephanie, Gabriel (Mabel), grandchildren: Dominic, Devannie, David, Izik, Gabby, Joey; Yvette Martinez (Le Roy), her children: Phillip (Stephanie), Timothy (Tori), Le Roy Jr; her grandchildren: Zayleen, La Nay, Hailey, Juliarose, Seth, Isaiah, Nathan, Jaden, Amiah, Aliyah, Trey; Michelle Herrera, her children: Daniel and Chasity, her grandchildren: Kianna, Nevaeh, Baby Daniel, Ahnesia and Jolissa; Martha Luna (Artie), sons: Sonny and Jeremy, grandson, Andrew; and last but not least, Theresa Herrera (Pat) and daughter, Amber. Other survivors include sisters and brothers: Joe and Renee Sanchez, Lloyd Sanchez, Elmo and Ginny Sanchez, Elizabeth and Alberto Molina, Terry and Ben Martinez, Grace and Fernando Sanchez, Priscilla and Pilar Melendez, Velma and Raul Luevano, Bernice and Jessie Grijalva; and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by both parents; as well as her mother, Consuelo that raised her to become the beautiful person our beloved Rose was; her husband of fifty-seven years; son, Henry Sonny Herrera; grandsons: Rudy Vato Lucero, Daniel Herrera; granddaughter, Chasity Peña; and two sisters: Christine Sanchez and Antonia Sanchez.
Our momma Rose was a very big and kind-hearted loving person who was awesome inside and out. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Momma Rose was always willing to lend a hand or ear. She was always good with everyone and opened her home and heart to many family members and friends throughout the years.
Our mom was a very hard worker all her life. She started working at a very young age for her parent’s grocery store, Sanchez Grocery, that was located at the family home, and worked there through her teenage years. After marrying our dad, mom worked at a few different places before starting at Levi’s Strauss Co, where she worked for twenty-three years until their closing. And mom didn’t stop there; she went back to school to get a GED. Mom always made herself available to help with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and boy did she love every one of them; they always brought her a smile. She was a true trooper until the end. Mom was always showing us how to be strong, and she planted the seed of faith and fear of God in all of us. Her love and inspiration were one of a kind, the only one a mother could give, and for that, we all thank her.
Our Special Thanks goes out to Kindred Hospice; the whole staff was a great blessing in her life, especially Anita Marrujo. Also, her sister, Elizabeth Molina.
Pall Bearers are: Joe Ray Perez, Stephanie Herrera, Phillip Navarrette, Michelle Herrera, Sonny and Artie Luna, Amber Herrera, and Leroy Martinez.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be the rest of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
This tribute was lovingly written in honor of Rose Marie by her family.
