New wing moving along at Civic Center

Re-construction of the Roswell Convention & Civic Center is moving along with workers from HB Construction of Albuquerque starting on the north end of the $6.3 million project. A new wing on the north side will eliminate an outdoor area, requiring the removal of the William F. Brainerd Plaza and trees. The project involves a 15,000-square-foot addition to the north of the convention center that opened in 1996 after being converted from a Coca-Cola bottling plant. The expansion will enlarge the civic center’s exhibit hall from 1,200 to 1,800 people. The center will close Jan. 1 and is expected to re-open in July. (Alison Penn Photo)
