Caretakers of South Park Cemetery would like to remind the public of cemetery’s hours of operation from at 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily.

“According to our rules and regulations, this has been in place for a number of years,” Ruben Esquivel, the cemetery supervisor, said. “With the cold season being here and it getting dark early, I think it safest thing to do to close the cemetery. No one needs to be here after dark.”

Cemetery officials ask visitors to be aware of time as the closing hour approaches, so visitors can ensure they exit before the gates are closed. The entrance and exit gates in the 3100 block of South Main Street will be closed before 5 p.m.

Prior to closing, Esquivel said the staff scans through the cemetery; rarely someone can be left behind. Visitors can call Central Control if this occurs.

Esquivel said there have been delayed closing times in the past, but this will not be the case for the future. From now on, the closing time will be strictly followed and enforced by visitors and staff.
