GHS student’s speech wins 1st

Sunrise Optimist Club of Roswell held its annual Oratorical Contest in November. Each contestant gave a 4- to 5-minute talk on optimism. Each participant was judged by four judges and their scores were combined with an average given. The winner of the contest was Tristan Herring of Goddard High School. Second place went to Treslin Stecher from the New Mexico Military Institute. Herring received $300 from the Sunrise Optimist Club and contest chairman Jim Bignell. Herring now has the opportunity to participate in the Zone contest coming up later this year, and the district competition after that, where more monetary rewards await the winner.
