A Roswell man who tried to flee agents from the Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force Thursday afternoon wasn’t successful, according to a spokesperson for the Roswell Police Department.

Todd Wildermuth said the agents, who are from RPD and the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office, located the suspect who has been identified as 46-year-old Joseph Bookhammer from Roswell.

He said the suspect was wanted on a federal narcotics warrant and as agents tried to contact him, he tried to leave an area near the Budget Inn West at 2200 W. Second St.

The call came in around 4:35 p.m. and Wildermuth said other RPD units responded and prevented the suspect from leaving the scene.

Bookhammer was later arrested and was served the federal charges, Wildermuth said.
