A previous letter to the editor (John Grogan, Dec. 22, 2017), incorrectly quotes the Constitution of the United States.

The preamble to same does not say that the government will “provide for the general welfare of its citizens.” The only thing “provided” at the direction of the preamble is “common defense.” All other areas of emphasis are “establish(ed)” (justice), “insured” (domestic tranquility), “promote” (general welfare), and “secure” (the blessings of liberty).

The rest of the letter is not worthy of rebuttal.
