A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church in Roswell for Clovis J. Torres , age 77, who entered into his heavenly home on December 22, 2017. Rev. Rick Sullivan and Dr. Matthew Skariah will officiate.
Clovis was born on December 3, 1940 in Lincoln, New Mexico to Aneda and Paz Torres. Clovis was preceded in death by his parents, as well as four brothers, Paz Torres, Jr., Louis V. Torres, Sosteno E. Torres and Ernest J. Torres, his nephew Amado V. Torres and his father-in-law and friend Ruben Briseno.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marilyn Briseno, his two sisters Irene Jones of Fresno, California and Gloria Chavez of Roswell, as well as his mother-in-law Penny Briseno of Roswell, his sister-in-law Christine Briseno-Bove and her husband Paul Bove of Austin, Texas, his brother-in-law Ruben Timothy Briseno and his wife Sylvia Briseno of Castro Valley, California, his nephews Louis Jones, Casey Jones, Jeremy Torres and Paul Jupree Briseno and his nieces, Elouise Torres Ortega, Joanna Salazar, Jade Morris and her husband Neil and Samantha Briseno as well as numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Clovis was also a pet parent to Fiona (a miniature Shetland Sheep dog) also referred to as his shadow.
Clovis was a Cub Scout and in February of 1957 became an Eagle Scout. As a youth Clovis played baseball, football, basketball and always enjoyed going to the family ranch in Arabela. When he was 15 he began working for 7-Eleven and became well known to the community. He later moved to Clovis, California and worked for Duncan Ceramics and GAP Distribution Center.
During the year of 1978 Clovis and Marilyn met, not realizing they each met the love of their life. Their lives became intertwined when they wed in May of 1987. Clovis won Marilyn’s heart with his quick wit, his sense of humor and his loyalty. When the Lord took him home, her heart was broken and a part of her was taken. He will remain in her heart and thoughts until the Lord calls her home.
In February of 1989 gave his heart to the Lord at Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Fresno, California and became very active in the church serving in various committees. In 2009 he became a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Roswell and was a member of the Sanctuary choir, was very active in his Sunday School Class and served in various other capacities. Clovis also considered it an honor and privilege to be prayer partners with Dr. Matthew Skariah and Tim Cannon. Clovis loved the Lord, his family and his church family.
If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the World Prayer Band, P.O. Box 686, Roswell, NM 88202-0686.
