In loving memory, the family of Mary Jean Naismyth Steele, 94, honors her life and sadly announces her departure on December 29, 2017. Graveside Services will be held at South Park Cemetery, Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 11:00 AM. Born on March 7, 1923, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Mary Jeans’s parents were Harry Vaughn Naismyth and Jean Marshall. Following graduation from high school, Mary Jean became a nurse. During World War II, she became an Army recruiter and later a medic bringing home war brides and their children from overseas. Afterward, Mary Jean received her teaching degree from UTEP.
Those left to cherish Mary Jean’s memory are children: Marion Steele Wood, Marshall Steele; grandchildren: Sean Shepherd, Chris Shepherd, Nicole Evertson, Noelle Evans, Meredith Harrell, Marshall DeWitt, Kevin Wood; great-grandchildren: Steaphan, Halena, Morgan, Brett Zane, Tovian, Adaya, Marshall, Levi, Caleb, Dax, Kaylee, Kinsley; great-great-grandchild, Lorelei.
Preceding Mary Jean in death were her loving husband, Charles Steele; parents: Harry and Jean Naismyth; and brother, Harry Naismyth.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Sue Johnson for her special care and love given to our mother during the final months of her life.
