Dems meet Saturday

Peter DeBenedittis, an alcohol addiction-prevention educator from Santa Fe, gives a brief campaign speech Saturday during the Democratic Party of Chaves County Pre-Primary Convention held at the Holiday Inn on North Main Street. He was one of several Democratic candidates running for statewide and Congressional offices in 2018 to talk to potential delegates from the county. The event was held to elect 16 delegates to attend the March 10 Democratic statewide pre-primary convention. The Chaves County Republican Party held its pre-primary convention earlier in the week. The names of delegates from both parties are expected to be released publicly by next week. Other Democratic gubernatorial bidders are U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham, former media executive and entrepreneur Jeff Apodoca and State Sen. Joseph Cervantes. U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, a Republican, also has announced his bid for the office.
