The intersection of West Country Club Road and Union/Montana Avenue will be closed for about six weeks beginning Monday due to construction.

The project will expand to four lanes the portion of North Union between West Country Club Road  and West 19th Avenue.

Access to nearby residences, Crossroads Assembly of God Church and Peachtree Village Retirement Community will be maintained throughout the closure, but no traffic will be allowed into or through the intersection. Access to Peachtree Village will be available on Montana Avenue. That facility’s access on Country Club Road will not be available during the intersection closure.

Signs will be in place diverting traffic to other streets to get around the closed intersection. Union Avenue between Country Club Road and 19th Street will remain closed as it has been since the lane-expansion began in mid-November.

The intersection is expected to reopen to traffic March 26. The overall lane-expansion project is tentatively scheduled to be completed by mid-April.

The general contractor for the $2.5 million project is Carlsbad-based Constructors Inc.

In addition to adding another traffic lane to both the northbound and southbound sides of North Union between Country Club Road and 19th Street, the project will install curbs and gutters, as well as sidewalks. A landscaped water detention pond also will be added on the east side of the road.
