Jose ‘Joe’ S. Albarez

Jose “Joe” S. Albarez, 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. There will be a Viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, 2018, 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday, February 16, 2018, 10:00 AM. Interment will follow Mass Service at South Park Cemetery. On October 18, 1932, Joe was born to Guillermo Albarez and Guadalupe Samaniego in Roswell, N.M. He attended Roswell High School and was a retired car salesman. Joe sold cars first in Roswell, NM, in Las Vegas, Nevada for ten years and again when he moved back to Roswell. Meeting people and selling them cars was one of his greatest passions. Throughout Joe’s life, he was a farmer, owner of JuJu’s Lounge, owned and managed KRDD Radio Station, and was co-owner of the Flamingo Club. He had an immense love for music and was an incredible dancer. Joe enjoyed socializing and made many friends throughout his life. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Joe had a loving and generous heart, always willing to help others. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. Joe was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed, not only by his family and friends, but by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Those left to cherish Joe’s memory are his children: JoAnne Federico and husband, Michael, Angela Albarez, Alice Draeger and husband, Don, Laurie Ann Wright, Luis Carlos Rodriguez and wife, Irena Toci, Cynthia Navarrette, Coy Hopper, Jesus Albarez, Joe Albarez, Jr; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Cruz Smolky; and many family and friends.
Preceding Joe in death was his daughter, Patricia Albarez Douglas; grandchildren: Jeremiah Bell, Joe Albarez, III; parents: Guillermo Albarez and Guadalupe Samaniego; siblings: Pete Albarez, Reynaldo Albarez, Willie Albarez, Vincent Albarez, Socorro Albarez, and Louis Leyba.
Those chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are: Andy Albarez, Louie De La Torre, Raul Alvarez, Alfred Leyba, Matthew Albarez, Carlos Cobos, Jr, Michael Albarez, and Nicholas Bell.
Pallbearers will be: Reese Smolky, Bruce Smolky, Ernie Smolky, Ray Albarez, Wil Albarez, and Coy Hopper.
Joe’s family wishes to give a Special Thanks to his loving caregivers: Margie Rincon, Seairra Sanchez, Frances Franco, and Margaritas for the food they’ve provided.
