Controlled burn leads to smokey skies

A collection of smoke rises to the sky as a controlled burn continues through an area of land along the corner of South Baker Road and Woodbine Way Thursday afternoon. According to the East Grand Plains Volunteer Fire Department, much of the smoke resulting from the fire was due to the burning of salt cedar plants. Barbed-wire fence along the area was also intentionally burned as a means to make it easier to remove in the future, as numerous plants surrounded much of the area’s fencing.
