Helen Meta Plander Washam

Helen Meta Plander Washam, 93, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, in Roswell, NM.  She was born in North Bergen, NJ, on September 19, 1924, the daughter of William Joseph and Anna Johanna Bargfrede Plander.  Helen married Noel Eugene Washam in Eatontown, NJ, on June 27, 1943, and first moved to Roswell in 1944.  The family moved to El Paso, TX, in the 1970’s, where she learned to drive and got her real estate license.  Helen remained there until she retired from an electronics company and returned to Roswell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Noel Eugene Washam; sisters: Anna Johanna Plander Byrnes, Dorothy Pauline Plander Longinetti; half-brothers: Arthur, Robert, William VanWinkle; grandson, Jeremy Chad Washam; and great-granddaughter, Kiera Nicole Washam.
Those left to cherish and treasure Helen’s memory are her children: Terry Washam, Larry Washam, Cathy Morrison, Cheryl Parker, Deborah MacCallum, Sharon Hooser, Judy Washam; eleven grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
Helen enjoyed an active life and cherished her family.  She was a proud and fierce mother who was always there to help her children become successful in school and life.  She was well known for her love of puzzles and bingo in her retirement community.  Helen had many friends and an amazing ability to remember everyone’s name and interests.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2018, 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Celebrate Helen’s life by visiting www.andersonbethany.com to offer a memory or expression of sympathy for her family.
