She is one of three spouses from the Army to receive the recognition and will now be among candidates considered for Military Spouse of the Year. National voting occurs at msoy.militaryspouse.com. Voting began Tuesday.

The national program honors the commitment and sacrifice that military spouses make every day in communities across the country.

Coombes, the cofounder and president of Operation Deploy Your Dress, heads an organization that collects and distributes gently used and new formal attire to military ID card holders for free to help offset the cost of military balls and other formal events. She has grown this nonprofit nationally, collecting more than 10,000 dresses for the cause.
