Roswell Sertoma Club awards 27 scholarships

The Roswell Sertoma Club recently awarded $13,500 in academic scholarships to 27 students in Chaves County.

Receiving $500 scholarships for the Spring 2018 semester are Bianca Barrientos, Florentino Barrientos, Jr., Mario R. Contreras, Jr., Sterling B. Cooper, Mark D. D’Arezzo, Madeline M. D’Arezzo, Zane M. Ellis, Lara K. Galassini, Jesse Jennings, Stephen R. Jolliff, Konnor Kundomal, Drew A. Lucero, Samantha K. Luna, Colton S. May, Jordan L. Menagh, LeAnna D. Morones, Michael Connor Olguin, Steve Anthony Olguin, Jr., Aalayah M. Romero, Maria E. Romero, Yaritza Ruiz, Trevor L. Sanders and Clare M. Shea.

Through numerous fundraising activities and the Sertoma bingo operation, the Roswell Sertoma Club was able to award students of Chaves County with more than $400,000 in financial aid. Based solely on academic achievement, the renewable scholarships are open to all undergraduate students residing in Chaves County. Applications for the scholarship can be downloaded from the Roswell Sertoma Club website at roswellsertoma.org/forms.

Sertoma is an international civic organization whose motto is “Service to Mankind.” Besides awarding scholarships, Roswell Sertoma Club assists individuals with the purchase of hearing aids. Sertoma funds numerous youth activities in Chaves County and sponsors and funds the annual 4th of July fireworks display and Colt Classic Baseball Tournament.
