The Roswell Independent School District school board members attended the New Mexico School Board Association conference in Santa Fe Feb. 8 through Feb 10.

President Mona Kirk said the conference was excellent and all 5 members attended, plus the interim superintendent Susan Sanchez. Kirk said all of the sessions had great information, which Kirk hopes will inspire the board’s future endeavors.

Now that the conference has passed, the board is focused on hiring the next RISD superintendent. The application deadline was Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. MST and the board will begin reviewing applications to choose five candidates to interview later in the spring.

Gloria Rendon, an education consultant, said the board has received 41 requests and 15 applications, 9 of which are employed or have been employed in New Mexico.

On Thursday, the school board had a closed executive session for the interim superintendent’s evaluation summative went to a vote, according to Kirk.
