A murder victim was found by authorities Thursday evening in the Midway area southeast of Roswell.
According to a news release from Chaves County Sheriff Britt Snyder, at about 5 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office received information about a possible murder.
“Follow up investigation throughout the evening confirmed a murder had in fact been committed at a property and residence located in the 6500 block of the Old Dexter Highway,” Snyder said. “During this investigation, the sheriff’s office investigators and staff did locate a single male murder victim on the property.”
Snyder said the Roswell Police Department’s Technical Services Unit assisted in processing the crime scene.
“Not much information can be released concerning this investigation,” he said. “However, we are working to try to identify persons who might be associated with this property and/or victim.”
Snyder said the victim’s body has been sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for an autopsy.
“The Medical Investigator will determine cause and manner of death,” the sheriff said. “We have more than enough information to clearly conclude this victim was murdered. The investigation is ongoing, and we will update information when possible.”
