The community came together on Friday afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Roswell High School’s dance team, Charlie’s Angels, for winning the National Dance Championship.

The event was put together by the Roswell Chamber of Commerce and the Red Coats. The chamber has a close connection to the dance team. Two of the dancers are having an internship here: Victoria Vazques and Nayeli Sanchez, both are 17 years old.

“I know she works hard and she dances harder,” Verciglio said about Victoria.

Asked how he reacted when he first heard about the big win, Verciglio said, “I was super excited. They did it again. It was great.”

The interview with Charlie’s Angels Dance Team’s coach, Kim Castro, happened to the tunes of “Eye Of The Tiger.”

Asked if she was surprised about the win, Castro said, “I think we are always surprised. We were up against so much talent over there. I mean, every team was at a very high level, and we were in second place from day one. We like to be in that position, because I know the kids will work harder to achieve first place. The team that we beat was from California and they were excellent. They were really good.

“It was very surprising, but on the other hand, I am not surprised because they worked really hard. They did the best that they could possibly do. I knew they had real chances but had to see if the judges saw that, too,” Castro said.

Charlie’s Angels Dance Team had to compete against 30 teams in their division.

“There is a small, medium and large varsity,” Castro said. “We were large varsity with 30 other teams, we were the 31st team. It’s amazing.”
