Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal shooting from Saturday night in northeast Roswell that left a young man dead.

According to a news release from the Roswell Police Department, investigators know who the shooter is, but there have been no arrests at this point in the homicide investigation.

“The call came into RPD about 9:40 p.m.,” said RPD public information officer Todd Wildermuth. “The shooting occurred at a residence on Driftwood Place in the Briar Ridge subdivision.”

Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Andrew Joseph Morro, who died shortly after being transported to a hospital immediately following the shooting.

“His body has been sent to the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for autopsy,” Wildermuth said. “Anyone with potential information regarding this case is asked to call the Roswell Police Department at 575-624-6770.”

According to online court records, in October 2017 Morro was previously charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia after police patrolling the parking of the Eastern New Mexico State Fair could smell the burning of marijuana.

Morro pleaded no contest to all charges in December 2017 and was sentenced to 364 days of supervised probation.

Court records also stated Morro’s home address was at Driftwood Place.
