Falling to prepare for leadership

Victoria Mason of Goddard High School prepares to fall into the arms of team members who will then lift her above their heads as part of the team-building and leadership development exercises of the Teen Leadership Institute. Co-sponsored by the Leadership Roswell Alumni Association and Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell, the one-day leadership course offered at various times over the years involves about 75 juniors and seniors from Chaves County high schools or home-schooling programs who hear from speakers and do various exercises. Four college scholarships from $500 to $1,000 also are awarded at the end of the day, which is held at the New Mexico Military Institute’s Yates Leadership Challenge Ropes Course and Daniels Leadership Center, according to Leadership Roswell Alumni Association members Jean Ann Dunn and Shelby Dutton.
