How do I dial a number on this thing?

Liz McVay, a volunteer for the Historical Society for Southeast New Mexico, on Tuesday shows a group of fourth graders how an old-fashioned phone worked. McVay explained that instead of dialing, a caller would pick up the receiver, turn the crank a few times and then tell the operator who he or she wished to call. The Historical Society gave tours of its museum, the former White house, and its archive building to more than 1,000 fourth graders from Roswell and surrounding areas from not only the RISD, but also private schools. The fourth-grade school tours are an annual event, with around 100 students attending on Tuesday. (Timothy P. Howsare Photo)
