March to protest gun violence in Roswell Saturday

Concerned citizens of Roswell and surrounding areas will march to protest gun violence this Saturday.

Roswell Indivisible, a chapter of the grassroots organization founded on the principles set forth in the Indivisible Guide, will host the event to begin at Pioneer Plaza at a.m.

Citizens from Roswell and surrounding areas are expected to attend.

Of particular concern to protesters is the extent to which the National Rifle Association (NRA) influences governmental policy. Once a public-focused institution dedicated to ensuring safe, informed firearm ownership, the NRA now uses its vast resources to lobby against common-sense gun regulation, hinder research on gun violence, and bolster the bottom lines of gun manufacturers.

Inspired by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas students’ vocal condemnation of the legislative failures that allow school shootings to recur with regularity, Roswell Indivisible hopes the march will help to bring about serious discussion of gun violence in our own town — a town itself rocked by a school shooting just four years ago.
