Minister Provincial Jack Clark Robinson, O.F.M. (Order of Friars Minor, aka Franciscan Order) on Tuesday blesses the image of Our Lady of Angels, which is the namesake of the newly renovated chapel at St. John of the Baptist Catholic Church on South Lincoln Avenue. In Spanish, the church is called Comunidad Catolica de San Juan Bautista. Looking on is, left, Father Jorge Hernandez, O.F.M., associate pastor of St. John, and Father Eduardo (Lalo) Espinosa, O.F.M., pastor. Espinosa said the project took nearly eight months to complete and that everything is new except for the foundation and structure. All the work was done by volunteers from the congregation. Robinson said the chapel will be used for daily Mass, baptisms and smaller wedding services. “This was the work of many,” Robinson told a crowd of around 200 while they were outside awaiting to enter the chapel. Father Charlie Martinez, O.F.M., pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church, also took part in the dedication ceremony. Both St. John’s and St. Peter belong to the Franciscan Order, which was established by St. Francis of Assisi in 1209. (Timothy P. Howsare Photo)
