You gotta move

Roswell physician Dr. Reynaldo Martinez M.D. speaks to the Roswell Runners and Walkers Club about the health benefits of exercise Monday at the Roswell Adult and Recreation Center. Seated is Alvin and Linda Jones. Martinez said he began running in high school and was a marathon runner while serving in the military. Then while working as a traveling consultant, he put fitness aside, gained 30 pounds and was showing signs of prediabetes. He returned to a healthy lifestyle and took off the weight. He continues to run, but emphasized that any type of movement is healthy, whether it be running, walking, swimming or pulling weeds in the garden. Martinez is involved with a national program that encourages healthy physical activity called Walk with a Doc. Every Saturday morning at 8 a.m., Martinez meets with local residents in the parking area of Cielo Grande Recreation Area, where he gives a 5 to 10 minute talk on a health or fitness topic. After the talk, participants can walk or run at their own pace and distance in the park. The public is invited to attend.
