Two men were elected to Democratic Party leadership positions at a Saturday morning meeting.
About 17 local Democrats gathered at the Holiday Inn on North Main Street for a meeting presided over by Stephanie DuBois of Tularosa, the vice chair of the Congressional District 2 Democratic Party.
In unanimous voting, the local group selected Daniel Johnson as the new vice chair of the Chaves County Democratic Party. He is replacing Jamie Thorton, who resigned the position.
Also elected to a position by unanimous vote was George Peterson. Peterson, recently elected to the Ward 4 on the Roswell City Council, was chosen as one of four members from the area to the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. He is replacing Tim Raftery, who passed away in February.
Johnson and Peterson will now join Sonia Raftery and Paul Romero, chair of the Chaves County Democratic Party, at the April 21 meeting of the State Central Committee of the New Mexico Democratic Party. The meeting in Truth or Consequences will be convened to select a party chair.
