The intersection of West Country Club Road and North Union/Montana avenues is set to open Monday.

Updated information about the intersection — and the North Union Avenue expansion project — was released by the city of Roswell on Wednesday.

“The intersection will have one lane open in each direction, so traffic will be able to proceed east and west on Country Club and north on Montana,” Todd Wildermuth, public information officer, said.

“Traffic will also be allowed to head south on Union from the intersection, but residents of the area, as well as other motorists, should be aware a section of Union — between Sorrento Drive and Karabella Way — will remain closed a short distance south of the intersection.”

For residents of the Sorrento Drive and Karabella Way area, there will be access points open for approximately four weeks. Residents are to access Sorrento Drive by heading south on Union Avenue from the intersection with Country Club Road, and for Karabella Way access drivers will enter Union Avenue from West 19th Street or Brazos Street and veer north to Karabella Way.

The press release from the city further states delays will occur during the ongoing work to expand a section of North Union Avenue from two lanes to four.

Traffic will be able to proceed east and west on Country Club, north on Montana Avenue and south on Union Avenue.

At a public forum at Del Norte Elementary School on Tuesday, City Engineer Louis Najar said when he has to close roads the public gets upset, but the neighborhood residents tell him they enjoy the peace and quiet.

“What is going to happen is the two center lanes we are going to open up to traffic,” Najar said. “We’ve been holding you guys up too long and I apologize for that — we had utility problems, wind problems, and all kinds of problems. Monday we are going open up a lane in each direction and so that bottleneck will be loosened up a little bit. We’ll still be pouring concrete from the outside curb lanes so that’s going to happen.”

Wildermuth said that along with the expansion of North Union between West 19th Street and West Country Club Road, additional traffic lanes will be added northbound and southbound in this section. Wildermuth also said a curb, gutter, sidewalks and a water detention pond will be installed.
