Richard Felix Fontaine, 87, entered into rest on Saturday, April 21, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM. On February 13, 1931, Richard was born to Felix and Mary Fontaine in Attleborough, Massachusetts. High School graduate, Richard continued his education and received an Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. On March 28, 1952, he was drafted and was assigned to the 5th R.C.T. Korea as a medic. In 1953, after the treaty was signed, Richard was sent home as a private first class. He continued his service to the United States by joining the 320th Army Reserve as a Recruiter and was soon promoted to SGT (E5). Not long afterward, he became a Company Clerk to a SGT Major for 1 year before receiving orders to go to Munich, Germany. After a few years, Richard was promoted to SGT (E6) and very soon received another promotion to (E7). His last position was as a Computer Tech in the Computer Operations Department, before retiring as a Master SGT (E8). Richard proudly served our country.
In retirement, Richard joined the Senior Olympics and won gold medals with his shuffleboard team multiple times. He enjoyed gambling, traveling and loved playing trivia with his grandkids. Richard loved eating out and was extremely generous to his family, friends and charity. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Richard are his five children: Richard Fontaine Jr and wife, Starla J. Fontaine, Cheryl Sales and husband, Rudy Sales, Ursula Wilson, Michele Hewett and husband, Walter Hewett, Michael Fontaine; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Rose Marie Correia.
Preceding Richard in death were his wife, Muriel June Fontaine; parents: Felix and Mary Fontaine; and brother, Maurice Fontaine.
