The man who had been previously listed in serious condition as a result of a drive-by shooting Thursday evening in south Roswell died shortly afterhe was taken to a hospital, local police say. 

According to previous reports, first responders were dispatched to a shooting taking place in broad daylight in the 800 block of South Richardson Avenue at about 6:26 p.m. Thursday. 

In a press release Monday morning, the Roswell Police Department identified the fatal victim as 42-year-old Joe Archuleta, of Roswell. 

The victim, Joe Archuleta, was transported to a local hospital, where he died soon after,” RPD public information officer Todd Wildermuth wrote in the release. “Initial investigation found Archuleta was riding a bicycle when a car pulled up next to him and someone inside the car fired multiple shots at Archuleta. The car then fled the scene. 

According to a neighbor from the area Thursday eveningArchuleta had been riding his bicycle through Richardson Avenue.

A downed bicycle facing north and personal items like a backpack, hat, keys and a pack of cigarettes were items visible from outside the crime scene. 

Police were not able to confirm any persons of interest or identify potential suspects, but stated RPD investigators ask anyone with information regarding the incident to call the department at 575624-6770 or Chaves County Crime Stoppers at 888-594-8477.
