Tug-of-war ‘invades’ field day at Monterrey Elementary

Monterey Elementary School students exert themselves in a tug-of-war contest Wednesday morning, one of several activities occurring during the school’s annual field day held before the end of the academic year, which will end on Friday this year. About 525 kids, with the guidance of teachers and parent volunteers, played capture the flag, volleyball and basketball, had a lunch of hot dogs, skipped rope, and faced off in a staff vs. fifth-grade kickball game with some coaching and assists by the Roswell Invaders professional baseball team, said school Principal Greg Torres. The Roswell Invaders spent the morning playing kickball with students at Monterrey Elementary School’s field day on Wednesday. The Invaders’ first game of the season is tonight at 7 p.m. at the Joe Bauman Baseball Stadium at 900 E. Poe Street versus the White Sands Pupfish.
