The Sunrise Optimist Club awarded four Vern Stahl Memorial Scholarships totaling $3,000 to graduating seniors at its latest breakfast meeting Wednesday. Receiving scholarships from left to right are, from Roswell High School, Laura Laidley, a $1,000 scholarship and Lara Castillo, a $500 scholarship. Representing Goddard High School was Taylor Le, a $1,000 scholarship, and Eden Wiggins, a $500 scholarship.

The scholarships are evaluated on the applicant’s academic success, leadership, community service and school organization participation. Each applicant must submit three recommendations along with their application. Scholarship chairman Roger K. Burnett stated, “We are honored to have these four fine young ladies representing our club. We look for good things from each one of them.”

The Sunrise Optimist Club has awarded the Vern Stahl Memorial Scholarship each year since the club chartered in 2000, reaching a total of over $36,000.
