Applications are now being accepted from local charitable organizations hoping to receive proceeds from the 2018 Rotary Desert Sun Golf Classic. The annual golf tournament is set for July 20 to 22 at Nancy Lopez Golf Course at Spring River.

One or more local charities will be selected as tournament beneficiaries and could receive more than $30,000. Last year’s primary beneficiary was The Salvation Army for their transitional living facility.

Interested parties should submit their applications by mail to P.O. Box 1573, Roswell, NM 88202-1573. The deadline is May 31. Applicants must be a qualified 501c3 corporation. Questions can be directed to Karen Rogers Melton at 575-622-8500.

The tournament is a PGA sanctioned, two-day, 36-hole Pro-Am event where amateurs can test their skills against some of the best professional golfers in the region. It is presented each year by the Roswell Rotary Club, Pecos Valley Rotary Club and Sunrise Rotary Club. Major sponsor is Desert Sun Motors of Roswell. In its 27-year history the Sun Classic has raised more than $700,000 for worthwhile causes in Chaves County. Visit desertsungolfclassic.com for more information.
