Roswell Runners/Walkers Club has elected officers for the coming year. Alvin Jones is president, Leon Shorey is vice president, Joan Blodgett is secretary and Dick Bartlett is treasurer.

The club has decided to pursue a worthy endeavor by organizing an adult class cross country running series to coincide with the local high school and middle school meet schedule during the fall of 2018.

These meets will be open to all adult runners and walkers 19 years and older.  You do not have to have run cross country previously. You just need to be in condition to run or walk a 5K-distance (3.1 miles) on dirt and grass terrain. There will be an affordable fee for each race.

At the end of the series overall champion, male and female, runner and walker awards will be presented. Age group medals to first through third places also will be presented. There will be a distinctive T-shirt for the series.

Proceeds from the series will be donated to the individual school booster clubs to help with uniforms and gear for their athletes.

Club members are still in the process of working out details and are waiting for meet schedules to be published. Anticipate the series taking place September through October, so there is plenty of time to train for these events. Adult athletes over 40 years old should get clearance from their physicians.

The next RRWC meeting will be on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Roswell Adult Center. At the meeting will be cross country coaches talking about training for these events. The public is welcome, and cross country coaches are espcially encouraged to attend.
