Mr. Esquivel shared some history of the cemetery, which was established in 1883 and contains over 30,000 internments.

He explained how the cemetery works in conjunction with the new veterans’ section. Esquivel also mentioned individuals buried there from our earlier days as a community.

As an arborist he also shared some insight on the tree situation in Roswell. He gives of his time to plan our Arbor Day and selects the trees to be given away. He also works with eighth-grade students, giving them plenty of tree information.

To hear our community leaders speak on various topics, join the Sunrise Optimist Club any Wednesday morning, 7 a.m., at the Red Onion Restaurant. For more information, contact membership chairman Roger K. Burnett at 420-9420.
