Laura Patricia Lodewick passed away on May 25, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. Patricia was born in Roswell, New Mexico on June 29,1935 to Stanley Widney and Laura Ballard Lodewick. A 1953 graduate of Roswell High School, she studied for two years at Sweetbriar College before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where she was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and received her Bachelor of Arts in 1957. That same year, she enrolled at Southern Methodist University, where she received a Master of Arts in English Literature.
In 1959, Patricia began her career as a teacher at North Dallas High School. Returning to teach at Roswell High School for two years, she spent the rest of her life in Dallas, where she taught English at Thomas Jefferson and Kimball High Schools. Inspired by a sabbatical year studying in England and Spain, she was able to indulge her love of international travel after retiring in 1986.
In 1992, after suffering liver failure, Patricia was a fortunate recipient of an organ transplant from Baylor University Medical Center. A most thankful survivor, she served as a volunteer in Baylor’s intensive care unit for the next 25 years. She was also an active member of the Dallas Woman’s Club, Dallas Garden Club, Shakespeare Study Club, and the Mary K. Craig Class.
Patricia is predeceased by her parents and older brother, Richard Ballard Lodewick. She is survived by her loving family, including her brother John Widney Lodewick and his wife, Julie, two nieces, two nephews and their spouses, as well as three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
Burial will take place in Roswell, New Mexico, on a date to be determined. In her memory, Patricia would like for you to bring a smile of gratitude to an unexpecting person.
