City trash collection crews adjust hours for summer

The City of Roswell Sanitation Department will be adjusting its trash pickup hours for the summer beginning Friday. Many customers may not notice the difference, but the summer schedule does make it vital that all roll-out containers be at the curb by 5 a.m. on the day of collection, in accordance with the city sanitation code.

This is the same time requirement already in place and is meant to ensure the summer trash pickup schedule works efficiently.

Sanitation collection crews will begin routes for 96-gallon roll-outs and alley 300-gallon containers on their respective pickup days at 4 a.m. instead of 5 a.m. Alley grappler service dealing with larger items will also follow the summer schedule.

The trash trucks will pick up commercial containers first so residents don’t have to have their roll-outs at the curb before 5 a.m., city officials said. However, the roll-outs must be at the curb no later than 5 a.m. as trash trucks will begin residential pickup at that time. Collection times at individual residences will vary, and during the summer schedule they may change.

Summer hours are designed to lessen heat stress on the Sanitation Department’s operators and equipment. The department will return to regular pickup hours Sept. 17.
