It’s good to be the queen

Chess instructor Mark Austin asked his young students, “How does the queen move?” One young man replied, “Anywhere she wants to.” The first-ever Chess Encounters class was held Saturday in the Bondurant Room of the Roswell Public Library. The class was free and each child received a free copy of the paperback “Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess” and a copy of Chess Life magazine. The library is tentatively planning to hold two more Chess Encounters on the first Saturday of July and August. Austin is a world-class chess champion who lives in Roswell. For more information, call the library at 575-622-7101. (Timothy P. Howsare Photo)
