We all loved him and will miss him. He spent most of his time with his wife Shirley, his children and grandchildren and his brother, Desmond who shared work and hobbies with him. Kevin and Shirley have taken several children into their home over the years from nine-year-old grandson, Christian who has lived with them since birth and called him Dad, to niece, Kaytlin who spent some time living with them and said he was the first “father figure” in her life. He was a kind, loving man who loved to laugh and joke around all the time. When he would wake the kids up in the morning he would always say, “You wish you woke up looking this good!” Or “This arm be mighty this arm be mo. If you get a little mighty you won’t want no mo!” Desmond remembers when people would ask Kevin, “Do you have a cigarette and light?” Kevin would say, “Yes, thank you.” (He was always joking.)
Since Kevin was a little boy, he loved helping hurt or sick birds and raising pigeons. He and Shirley have several exotic birds now and have always had special dogs in their lives. He loved spending time with friends riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting and golf. Kevin would joke that he was working to win his “Green Jacket”.
Kevin Wayne Blancet was born in Roswell, New Mexico to Desmond Doyle Blancet and Doris Lou Edwards Blancet. His parents passed away in 1961 when he was two years old. His maternal grandparents, James Cecil Edwards and Eula Edwards shared in raising him with paternal grandmother, Oneita Blancet. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, grandson, Layton Sentell, aunts, uncles and cousins. He lived most of his life in Roswell, working in roofing, construction and the oil field. One of his former bosses and friends said it best, “He was a GOOD MAN and I will miss him.” Another said, “He had a hard life, but he was a good man and a hard worker.”
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hannan Blancet, his children: Zachary Wayne Blancet and Amy Blancet Sentell; grandchildren: Madison Blancet, Christian Sentell, Jeremiah Mosher and Aden Sentell, all of Roswell. He is also survived by Sue Hannan, his mother-in-love, who always treated him like a son and he loved her like the mother he never knew.
Also surviving Kevin are his sister, Detra Blancet Reese (Elton) and brother, Desmond Blancet both of Roswell and brother Larry Blancet (Cheryl) of Diboll, Texas; nieces and nephews; Leslie Reese Morales (Piro), Patrick Reese (Nicole), Meredith Reese Hager (Matt), Monica Blancet, Justin Blancet (Tara), Victor Blancet (Melissa), LaDonna Bradley, Roy Bradley (Kristi) and Keith Hampton; aunt, Jaunda Blancet Kindel, uncle N.
