Healthy Kids summer program kicks off

Roswell High School’s football team ran plays with local kids at Carpenter Park to kick off Healthy Kids’ summer free lunch program on Friday afternoon. Members of RHS’ Charlie’s Angels also were present to play soccer and participate in other activities with the kids. The Roswell Independent School District and Healthy Kids Chaves County celebrated the free lunch program of the summer season at Carpenter Park located in the 300 block of East Buena Vista Street. The crew said they usually make 250 lunches and were serving burgers and hot dogs to kids on Friday afternoon. The Roswell Fire Department, 4-H, and Roswell High School students created activities for the kids to support healthy lifestyles. Two bicycles for children were also raffled. The program offers a free meal for school-age children and adults may purchase a tray for $3.00. The program will run until July 29 at various parks from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. For more information, citizens can call 637-3339 or visit the RISD website. (Alison Penn Photo)
