A family reception was held for the Dominguez and Barela families, who are descendants of Praxedes “Peggy” Dominguez-Barela, a young Hispanic girl who was painted by renowned New Mexico artist Peter Hurd. About 100 people from at least five states attended the reception at the Bassett Auditorium of the Roswell Museum and Art Center on Friday. Praxedes’ dark eyes with their intense gaze were beautifully captured on canvas by the artist. The portrait, called “Retrato de Praxades Dominguez,” is currently touring as a part of a joint collection of artwork called “Magical & Real: Henriette Wyeth and Peter Hurd, A Retrospective.” The painting can now be viewed at the RMAC, 100 W. 11th St. (Timothy P.
