A torrent of water could be seen jetting skyward for much of midday Friday on North Main Street in Roswell, between Wilshire Boulevard and Country Club Road. City of Roswell officials said the spectacle, which slowed traffic for a time and caused water to gather in nearby parking lots, was the result of a semi-truck striking a fire hydrant. The overturned hydrant can be seen in the photo above. Roswell water maintenance crews were dispatched to repair the damage and stop the flow, which took several hours. While repairs were underway some businesses near the scene were without water, but neighborhoods were not expected to be impacted. Northbound Main Street traffic near the accident was reduced to one lane for a time. According to city officials, the driver of the truck that struck the hydrant left the scene but was later located, and charges are pending. (Daily Record Photo)
