City working on hiring new electrical inspector

Recently, the City of Roswell lost its electrical inspector. The city has been working diligently to advertise for and hire a new electrical inspector, according to a press release issued by the city Tuesday, but it is a specialized job and will probably take a while to fill.

This means anyone with a construction or reconstruction job that requires an electrical permit will need to request that electrical permit and inspections from the State of New Mexico Construction Industries Division (CID.) Contact information is as follows: 1-877-243-0979, or email cid.inspection@state.nm.us. Requests for inspections can be made through the CID website (http://www.rld.state.nm.us/construction/request-inspection.aspx.)

According to the press release, the city does not control the timeline or schedule of the state CID electrical inspector, so those needing the service must anticipate upcoming inspection requests and contact the state inspector ahead of time. Without the inspector’s approval, the city cannot issue a Certificate of Occupancy for a project.

The city will keep residents informed about the status of the electrical inspector position. Please call the Community Development Department at 575-637-6280 with any questions.
