GOP doesn’t put citizens’ safety in jeopardy

John Ford (in his letter July 4) is correct to say that political parties have changed over the years, but one doesn’t have to go back two centuries, or even two decades, to observe that. My parents voted Democrat all their lives, but if they were alive today they would bail out of that party faster than you can blink, because of how far left it has drifted.

A good example is the current call, by many Democrats, to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) altogether. This is Hillary Clinton’s clueless “open borders” lunacy with a vengeance. Never mind that ICE has confronted thousands of violent criminals, many of them convicted felons and many times deported already (some of the delightful folks Nancy Pelosi says have a “spark of divinity”), and the simple fact is that without ICE these thugs would still be roaming our streets in even bigger numbers.

This is about future votes, of course. Admittedly, politicians of both parties have one overarching objective, which is to get perpetually reelected (since it beats ever having to hold down a job with real responsibilities and accountability), but at least Republicans don’t generally put the safety of the legitimate citizenry in jeopardy to do so.
