Oregon author Thomas Kirkbride talks with one of his young fans (and the fan’s pet reptile) after his presentation Saturday afternoon, during the annual UFO Festival, at the International UFO Museum and Research Center. Kirkbride has written the Gamadin series of science-fiction books that follows two male protagonists, 17 and 18, as they discover a large crashed spaceship and begin their adventures through the galaxies. “We get a lot of boys to read who usually would not want to read,” he said. “And unlike the (Harry) Potter books, my hero gets kissed after the first five chapters.” Kirkbride, who also does the artwork for the series and is his own publisher, said he is now working on both a prequel to the series and the seventh book. He has attended the UFO Festival in Roswell eight times. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
