The 24th annual Alien Chase, hosted by the Roswell Parks and Recreation Department, took place July 7 during the annual UFO Festival. Featuring a 5K run and 5K walk, and a 10K run and 10K walk, the race took place at the Roswell Adult and Recreation Center.

Overall men’s and women’s winners in each race received awards, and first-third place finishers in each age group were awarded medals.

For the 5K run there were 99 participants. The top 10 finishers were: Maritza Alvarez from Roswell – 22:17; Bob Morris from Laguna Niguel, Calif. – 23:12; Anthony Dominguez from Roswell – 23:55; Dameon Rivera from Roswell – 23:57; Jonathan Lee from Roswell – 24:14; Mattheu Kasuboski from Roswell – 25:16; Robert Torres from Roswell – 25:53; Nicholas Generous from Santa Fe – 25:53; Laura Tipton from Post Falls, Idaho – 26:17; and Isaiah Montoya from Roswell – 26:18.

In the 10K run there were 22 runners. The top 10 finishers were: Terrance Orgain from Carlsbad – 39:44; Celia Hernandez from Artesia – 43:38; Thomas Lucero from Roswell – 43:47; Terra Bradshaw from Weatherford, Texas – 45:18; Agustin Puga from El Paso, Texas – 47:44; Agnes Frazier from Roswell – 53:05; Heather Podhajecki from Alamogordo – 53:14; Chuck Dawe from Roswell – 54:17; Gloria Wier from Roswell – 58:10; and Sean Collins from Clovis – 58:11.

The 5K walk had 47 entrants, and the top 10 finishers were: Robin Hughes from Roswell – 40:27; Candida Romero from Roswell – 40:51; Megan Kessman from Denver, Colo. – 41:28; Alvin Jones from Roswell – 42:31; Lynn Maley Kessman from Denver, Colo. – 43:44; Silvia Flores from Roswell – 43:52; Jackie Hewett from Roswell – 53:43; Sharee Maloy from Tijeras – 43:55; Richard Yeagar from Roswell – 44:48; and Caley Kessman from Denver, Colo. – 45:26.

In the 10K walk there were seven participants. In order of finish, they were: Leon Shorey from Roswell – 1:32:55; Joe Barta from Perkins, Okla. – 1:33:37; Christopher McClure from Sardis, Tenn. – 1:43:55; Joan Blodgett from Roswell – 1:49:38; Sheila Adams from Sardis, Tenn. – 1:50:34; Gracie Seymour from Midland, Texas – 2:15:27; and Mary Kling from Roswell – 2:17:27.

This year the race was timed using electronic chips which recorded pace and overall accurate times. All participants received commemorative T-shirts, and a special prize was given to the participant with the best alien costume.
