Leadership Roswell is a Roswell Chamber of Commerce program designed to take current and future leaders to develop and equip them to be more effective leaders. The program accepts up to 30 students. There is an application process, a selection process and a tuition for students who are selected (partial scholarships are available through the Leadership Roswell Alumni Association). The class begins in August with a welcome reception and ends in May with a graduation ceremony. Leadership Roswell has graduated 891 students since its inception in 1983.
Leadership Roswell meets one Friday a month for nine months , with the exception for the Santa Fe class trip and class at FLETC. The class holds a Christmas party, a class project and will plan its graduation ceremony.
The following are examples of places Leadership Roswell has toured: New Mexico Military Institute, New Mexico Supreme Court building, a dairy, Roswell FAA tower, Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, Chaves County administrative office building, Roundhouse in Santa Fe, Dean Baldwin, Leprino Foods, ENMU-Roswell, Roswell Police Department, Christmas by Krebs, Rowell Livestock Auction, governor’s mansion, Chaves County Sheriff’s Office, Mystic and Double Eagle Ranch (home of Mine That Bird).
“If you decide to do the class, you will get to go to a lot of places you wouldn’t be able to normally visit like FLETC,” said John LeMay, 2018 class president. “For me, the best thing was the friendships and the connections you make through the class.”
Leadership training covers topics such as goal setting, attitude, communication, getting organized, leading with passion, the importance of growth, dealing with stress and overcoming failure.
