Roswell man dies in head-on crash

A Roswell man died Sunday from injuries sustained in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 70 according to a press release from New Mexico State Police.

The crash happened on Highway 70 near mile post 307 between Roswell and Hondo, according to the release.

Daniel N. Uranga, 69, of Roswell was pronounced dead by the Office of the Medical Investigator. According to the release, Uranga was driving a 2011 Buick Lacrosse and traveling west when a 2016 Chevy pickup traveling east crossed the center lane and collided head-on with Uranga’s vehicle.

The driver of the Chevy, a 23-year-old male, along with a 24-year old woman and five-month-old male child, all from Hobbs, were taken to an area hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the release states.

Alcohol was not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash and seatbelts were properly utilized, according to the release.

No additional information was available as of late Monday about the crash, which is still under investigation.
