Dr. Surla to speak at Healthsense

Dr. Jessie Surla will be the speaker at Healthsense at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Senior Circle. She is part of the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center Gastroenterology team and her topic will be fatty liver disease. These talks are free and open to the public and a light lunch is served. Senior Circle is at 2801 N. Main St., next door to Family Dollar.

Ice cream today social at B&GC

The Sierra Blanca Boys & Girls Club will hold an ice cream social today from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Poe Corn Center, 201 S. Garden Ave. The Roswell Chamber of Commerce and the Redcoats will be there, as well as parents and individuals for the community. Come see the new club and the progress it is making. The free Magical & Real Lecture Series continues at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 100 W. 11th St., with Melissa Renn, art historian and curator. During World War II, Life Magazine sent artists worldwide to record in paint all aspects of war. This talk explores Peter Hurd’s work for Life as an artist-correspondent during WWII. Brown Bag Lunch Talk — ‘Parallax’

The free Brown Bag Lunch Talk continues from noon to 1 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, 100 W. 11th St., with Parallax: A RAiR Connection Exhibition with Maja Ruznic. Ruznic, who will discuss her recent work as part of the exhibition, “Parallax: A RAiR Connection Exhibition. “Ruznic, who is originally from Bosnia and lives in Los Angeles, creates paintings that explore trauma and its untold traces. ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ auditions

Youth group meets every Thursday

Flute Ensemble practices weekly

The Roswell Flute Ensemble practices weekly at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene, 510 N. Sycamore Ave. The ensemble charges no fee to perform and can perform a variety of music. The ensemble is always seeking new players, experience preferred. ‘Go for the Gold’ Tobosa tournament
