A local church was broken into during the late Monday night early Tuesday morning hours, leaving a door damaged and several items stolen.

Police received a call at 8:08 a.m about a burglary at St. John’s Catholic Church on Lincoln Avenue, according to a police report.

A door valued at $250 was damaged. The report also lists an electronic receiver, wine, a paten plate and two chalices with a combined value of $520 as stolen.

Sandra Martinez, a church member, said a security camera within the church caught the break-in on tape but that she did not know any other details.

A secretary at the church said she could not speak about the incident and that Pastor Eduardo Espinosa was the only one able to speak with the media. She added that Espinosa was out of town until next week.
